Mind Map due 4/24 and Essay due 5/22
Books must be the first and second books in a series.
Book Requirements: Any FIRST and SECOND book in a series that you have never read before.
Book 1: Mind Map
A mind map is a visual aide that illustrates your understanding. For this assignment, I am looking for you to create a mind map about the theme of your book.
Begin at the center of a 12 x 12 plain or subtle textured/patterned scrapbook page. Declare the title of your book and the overall theme. Most books have several themes that contribute to the big, central theme. You are identifying the CENTRAL THEME. Include a colorful image to go with your theme.
From this point, follow the format below to create a web that stems out to illustrate how the theme is represented. Each main section should include at least 3 relevant visuals to help clarify the events. They should be labeled:
*Protagonist (main branch)
-Needs & Desires (beginning, middle, and end) (sub branches)
-Quotes, Changes, Thoughts (tertiary branches)
*Conflicts (main branch)
-Specific Conflicts (defined by people involved and conflict type: man vs man, man vs self,
man vs society, man vs nature) (sub branches)
-Outcomes, dialogue, reward (tertiary branches)
*Settings (main branch)
-Specific Settings (sub branches)
-Influence-of setting to plot development (tertiary branches)
*Symbols (main branch)
-Specific Symbols (sub branches)
-Represent (tertiary branches)
The mind map should be colored in a way that assists in the presentation of the material. We have done an example in class, so students should understand the expectations. They should have a copy of their practice mind map.
